Southwell 4.20

May 13, 2008

Whilst paddock-watching at Windsor last Monday I was taken with the appearance of PAPUAN PRINCE. He was making his seasonal debut after having only the one run as a 2-y-o at Newbury last August, that Newbury run wasn’t totally without promise, he made some late progress. He was available on some boards @ 28/1 at Windsor and was returned at a starting price of 20/1. Slowly away and behind, he made steady headway to have every chance entering the final furlong, I thought that I was onto a winner at one stage, but the run petered-out and he eventually finished sixth, beaten about three lengths.

He drops back a furlong today, which shouldn’t be a problem, but the one unknown is the surface. Fibresand isn’t every horse’s ‘cup of tea’, and he just might not act on it or take a dislike to the ‘kick-back’.

It is obviously up to you whether you get involved but I think I will be having an interest on an each-way basis, he’s about 5/1 on Betfair but the market hasn’t really formed yet.
