Andy Murray Set For Santoro At Wimbledon
June 20, 2008
Andy Murray is to play Fabrice Santoro at the first round this Wimbledon following a draw at the All England Club today. Murray - who missed the tennis grand slam tournament last year because of a bad wrist injury - has recovered from a thumb problem which forced him out of the Artois Championships. Andy Murray is currently ranked 11th in the world and has been seeded 12 this means he will miss the other big players until at least the fourth round of the tournament.
The current Defending champion Roger Federer, seeking a sixth straight title, is the top seed in the men’s singles and will face Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia. World No2 Rafael Nadal, the French Open champion who won at Queen’s, is also in the bottom half of the draw with Andy Murray and must take on German qualifier Andreas Beck. Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is seeded 3 and will play Michael Berrer, of Germany. The Serbian is in the top half of the draw, with Roger Federer. There is other British interest in the men’s singles, with Alex Bogdanovic set to face Italian Simone Bolelli. Qualifier Chris Eaton has been given a tough first-round test against Nicolas Mahut. Wild card Jamie Baker will take on Italy’s Stefano Galvani.
Andy Murray said: “I have got two good practice days in at Wimbledon. The courts are a little bit faster than previous years, which is good.
Murray has been experiencing minor problems with his footwork as the tennis season switched from clay to grass, and hopes a change in footwear may cut out some of the slips.
“I am going to be trying out a couple of different shoes,” he said.
