At The Us Open Tiger Woods v Rocco Mediate Playoff
June 16, 2008
Yesterday saw drama in the final round of the US Open. Tiger Woods was one shot clear of England’s Lee Westwood, with Rocco Mediate a shot further behind entering into the final round.
Woods was going for his 14th major, but this is his first tournament back after major knee surgery and he has been suffering with knee problems throughout.
Mediate completed his round one shot clear of Westwood and Woods and level par for the day. Both Westwood and Woods tee shot on the par 5 18th went into the bunker. They both managed to reach the green in 3 and had a put for birdie which would draw them both level with Mediate. Westwood who would have been the first British winner since Tony Jacklin in 1970, was left with a 20 foot putt for birdie came up short. Woods a two times winner of this event managed to get the birdie that he needed to draw level with Mediate and to take it to a playoff.
The playoff will be played today and Tiger Woods will be a warm order. However the playoff isn’t played over the traditional four holes, it is played over a full 18 holes. Although Woods’s mental strength is second to none this could prove difficult for him given that he is still encountering knee problems.
Therefore I recommend a bet on Rocco Mediate at 3/1 with Betfair and if you open up an account today you will receive a free ÂŁ25 bet with betfair.
