Zarkava 7-1 At The French Oaks
June 9, 2008
Zarkava was quoted 7-1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by several leading bookmakers including Will Hill, after the Aga Khan’s filly retained her unbeaten record with streaming success at the French Oaks. Owner of Zarkava, confirmed the Longchamp race was a possible target for the Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained filly.
Primer Luce led the 13 runners into the final home straight, but patently failed to stay the extended 10f mark trip and lost strength as  Zarkava ran towards the middle of the track. The winning jockey was delighted and spent the last half-furlong blowing kisses to the crowd. Kitty Matcham was out of luck in the Diane, but with a clear run third-placed Mount Nelson would have won the Group 3 Prix Equidia on the supporting card.Â
