Two for Goodwood this afternoon.
May 21, 2008
I’m interested in two horses at Goodwood this afternoon. WHISTLEDOWNWIND 2.50, took the eye of some paddock-judges, when making his racecourse debut at Newmarket last back-end. He finished in 9th. that day, behind Stoutey’s , Almajd, beaten about six lengths. Stepped up on that debut effort 18 days later, at the same track, to win a mile maiden on soft ground. His seasonal debut, when second to Centennial at Sandown over 10 furlongs, was full of promise, he was running on well at the end to be beaten only a neck.
He is thought to be heading for the St. Leger in the long term and todays 1m 3f. looks ideal, one worry would be if the ground dried up, he is thought to need at least some give.
Another positive for this horse is that his trainer Chapple-Hyam has a good record with his 3-y-os at this track, 4 winners from 12 runners and a level stake profit of £10 plus change.
The other one is JENNIE JEROME 5.10, her trainer, Luca Cumani, also has an excellent record with his 3-y-os here, 6 from 22 (27%) and an LSP of £15.45. This filly was another who ‘caught the eye’ of the paddock-watchers at Newmarket on her debut last year. She finished 8th. in her race, just over 5 lengths behind Shabiba. Today is her seasonal re-appearance, but I have heard that she has been working well on the gallops and will be ready for today’s race.
Good luck.
Colin
