York to go all Hawaiian with Honolulo today!

The Yorkshire Cup at 2.40 today would appear to be a very open race on paper you have the peoples favourite Sergeant Cecil who has a tremendous record at York and won this race last year. Also he is partnered with Alan Munro who rides this horse very well. Even though Sergeant Cecil has a tremendous record here his recent form is poor and he would appear to be on the decline, even though he does not have a penalty this time, I feel that the best he can hope for is a place. A livelier contender would be Royal and Regal who has won his last two races and looks like a real improver. Although unproven over the distances, it would appear that the 1m 6F trip would be ideal for him. The slight worry is the ground though. He has only ever won on soft, good to soft or heavy, so I think he could also be found out. This would leave Honolulo trained by Aidan O’Brien. This horse already has very good course form. He was 2^nd in the Ebor behind Purple Moon. Although Honolulo’s last race was far from impressive he will go on the ground and has excellent form. Most notably his 3^rd behind Lucarno in the St Leger when only beaten 1 and ¾ lengths and he was favourite that day.
